January 2024

Here I am on a new year! Another wonder.

January was slow and felt like a small return to a right mind after some hard months. The sickness finally hit us at the beginning of January, but after it ran its course, we hunkered down with our new baby and finally started h'learning (which had been put on indefinite hold during the frenetic 3 months of wedding preparations). One sign of how bad home life had become was revealed one January morning when I sat on the couch and told the Littles to pick some books for me to read. Skylark's eyes popped, then she jumped off the couch and ran upstairs, shouting, "Come downstairs, everybody! Mama's going to read us BOOKS!!!!" Yup. It had been too long.

By the end of January, though, Henry had proposed to Mildred, Marigold was due with puppies in a matter of weeks, and my momentary return to a right mind was a fast-fleeting memory. I guess I just don't know how to keep my footing when life changes so rapidly. Ah, well. So it goes. At least I took some pictures of baby Mallory before I was swept off into no-man's land again.
