Nixie looks frightened in the picture, but she was actually trying to reach deeper water. She exulted in the ocean; the more water splashed in her face, the happier she was, and she fussed every time I pulled her back to the sand. (I guess we nicknamed her rightly when she was a baby, because a nixie is a water pixie.)
