Last night, I made buryani and was struck anew by how wonderful both garlic and ginger are. They are packed with flavor, keep well, AND they both begin with the letter "g." (Accident? I think not.)

  1. The smell of garlic makes me salivate like Pavlov's dogs. I left a medium-sized container of the stuff in Emily's fridge...I wonder how long it will take her to notice.

  2. MMMMmmmmm. The base of any good curry.

  3. Kate,
If she's anything like me, she won't notice until a few months have passed, and a compulsion to clean comes over her.

    Sandy,
The base of any good anything! (Not really, I suppose. Garlic and ginger cookies don't appeal to me, though we plan to go to a garlic festival this weekend where garlic ice cream is sold...)

  4. Abby, there is a garlic festival around here?? Where? I would love to go next yr. The only one I'd heard of was while we were stationed in CA. It was in Gilroy, CA. We couldn't go, but I would've loved to try the garlic ice cream!

  5. The girls loved the garlic ice cream, and I think it'd be pretty easy to recreate (though I'd probably rather throw in chocolate than garlic).

We went to the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival in Sauguerties (sp.?), which is about 3 hours away, but we found out about the Seneca Garlic Festival, too, which is near Ithaca, and there are a few more within driving distance, too, although the Hudson Valley one is one of the biggest and best. We'll have to plan for a group visit next year (and hopefully even pull some strings so the Terrys can join us). We'd love to munch garlic together with you all!
