Leah and I went to the Purdy's rollicking house the day before she went into labor. While there, in addition to being served a yummy lunch while enjoying conversation, we helped peel 80 cups of apples to make pie(s). For those who don't know, the Purdys have 12 children, not all of whom presently live at home but all of whom like pie. (I think they all like pie, at least. Who doesn't?)

  1. If you do not already have it, you should go find "Always Room For One More" by Sorche Nic Leodhas. What brings it to mind is your mention of "the Purdy's rollicking house"--the grammar leading it to be wondered if we own a house that dances about. Verse two of "Always Room for One More":

Rury's pipes set the rafters a-ringing
Till the clock danced on a reel on the shelf,
And they all fell to dancing and singing,
And the little dog danced by himself.
Och, the walls they bulged out and bulged in then,
The walls they bulged in and out.
There will never be heard such a din, then,
    As came from the folks
    In the wee little house
While they rollicked and frolicked about.
They filled all the house up from door to door,
But Lachie cried out, "There's room galore.
'Twould be a tight fit, but there's room for one more,
    Always room for one more!"

Yes, indeedy, "Room for One More" is a very appropriate book for us. And we do all like pie. But I hardly think you can call me generous for sending you home with one (in your own pie plate, no less) when I kept five for us.

I am thankful I did not have to learn mid-wifery on the fly, and also that Leah and Isaiah are both doing well.

  2. If there ever was a Purdy who did not like pie we would probably disown the scoundrel.

I must confess though, that if we managed to avoid doing such rash action until after we got over the shock, we might just be glad that there would more pie for the rest of us

  3. I like the careful picture that doesn't show how messy our house is.

  4. I wasn't going to tell if she didn't tell….

Truth be told, anyone who paid attention to how much we write would realize that we could never possible be neat and still be human. Though I would have preferred to keep people guessing on the human part…

  5. Titi,
Got it. (You've seen the bulging bookshelves!) And, yes, heaping my pie plate with a mountain of apple pie was generous.

    Rundy & Teman,
I don't even document my OWN messy house, so any messes in yours flew completely under my lethargic radar.

Neatness is overrated. Giving plentiful comments on Abigail's blog is not. Please, ignore the former and continue with the latter!
