For our first Christmas, most of John's gifts were fun toys he'd bought for me at an antique store that was going out of business. They've been stored away for four years, but now they are being properly used. (Don't worry, I don't let her suck that lead-based paint off of the wood, but I do let her bang and screech.)
Awhile back one of your readers suggested that Susannah looked to be a little Thumbelina coming for tea. This picture reminds me of that also...kind of like an Alice in Wonderland effect. I can't tell if she has shrunken or if that toy is just a HUGE big-as baby version....
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous...not only of the toy but the beautiful desk/chair in the background!
ReplyDeleteIt's a big toy, but the perspective may make it appear bigger than it is.
ReplyDeleteLiana,
All but three or four pieces of furniture in our house have been generously given to us (or slyly pulled from the roadside and then repainted), but this desk is by far the most beautiful of those gifts. A friend of my mother heard that I liked antiques when my mom told her she had been buying little curiosities for me at garage sales, and then my mom's friend GAVE me this for my high school graduation. It was an extremely generous gift, especially because this woman was not rich and, after eying it in the window for months, had splurged on the desk for herself several years earlier at an antique store. It was a special thing to her, and it's now the same to me. (And it feels so good to have it out of its barn storage!)
