Mother's Day 2007

Mother's Day should be abolished.

Taken between the van and destination: house,
a journey that's always much longer than it appears.

Nixie, numb from sleep, perked up a bit when she saw the results of Millie's puffing, and Susannah roamed free and fancy.

  1. How DARE you utter those words?!?

Well-if it were abolished, how then could I give a hearty

    HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY !!!

to one of the best Mother's I know??

PS> Your girls look lovely. Their dresses are lovely. Their cute little legs are lovely. Their expressions never disappoint. I love Millies dress!

  2. Let me clarify.

If a day is a good day, it's a good day no matter what, but bad things seem much worse than they actually are when they occur in the expectant environment of Mother's Day.

John is good and kind. He's brought me batches of flowers over the last few weeks-- ones he's bought or salvaged or picked. On Mother's Day, he made fruit shakes and a big breakfast for us (like he almost always does on weekends), he stopped to pick me up an amazing gift he'd researched ahead of time (but the store was temporarily out...which means grrr), and then after church, he rearranged the living room while I took a nap. But later, along with complete chaos in the living room, the girls were inordinately weepy before bed, Susannah fell down the stairs, which led to half of our neglected steaks being burnt on the outside and rare on the inside, and then to top it off, Annika locked herself in the bathroom for a few minutes of panic and crying (on her part).

If it hadn't been Mother's Day, it would have seemed like a bad molehill ending to a good beginning instead of a monstrously bad, mountain ending.

That's all. I stand my ground. Mother's Day should be abolished. John and the girls unexpectedly show their love for me in special ways the whole year through, and a day to expect them is a recipe for disaster.

  3. Oh! That's too funny.

I just reread your comment to ensure I responded appropriately with a long rant (which of course was typically inappropriate), when I noticed your question marks, and they made me laugh.

You're absolutely right to question whether I'm one of the best mothers you know! :)

  4. Abigail-
I haven't seen you in a few years, but I am CERTAIN you are one of the best mother's I know!

And I agree with Rebecca (on the other photo's comments) --beautiful girls, dresses...etc.

Thank you for sharing them with your faithful blog-readers!

  5. I must heartily disagree that Mothers Day should be abolished, also :)

If you are slathered with wonderful treats all yr around, I can understand your reasoning.

I have a wonderful husband, and wonderful children- but I look forward to Mother's Day because it is a day where I truly do get the royal treatment and I love every minute of it :) It also gives me a good chance to reflect on motherhood-something I don't always to because I'm living it (does that make sense?)

Anyhow, you can abolish for yourself, but please leave it for the rest of us..okay??? :)

  8. AS for your rational. THAT sounds like a bad day! I get it.

That is kinda how my Mother's Day went this year-all except for the basket. :-)

Ps-how DID you get Annika out?
