Our lettuce still grows well in the shadow of the corn (I planted them in the same row with that hope).
This is one of our scant two rows of corn two weeks ago. (They grow in the shadow of the maple that stands in the shadow of the deadly walnut tree that is killing our tomatoes again this year.) Annika accompanied me outside for picking that night, and she waxed eloquent about how large the cornstalks were. Some of them are now probably over seven feet high; I wonder how much more excited she could get, though.
