Gifts Three

Smocks! Smockity, smock, smock, smock.

I made these intending them to be art smocks, but I've not gotten the paint out yet, so they have been used as kitchen smocks and glorified bibs at supper. Only Susannah wears a bib at meals, but when I finished these, suddenly both of the big girls decided they needed to wear them for a meal or two, also.

  1. I loved all your handmade gifts, but these smocks take the cake! Where did you get the pattern? I'd love to make a boyprint one for my little boy :)

  4. Elizabeth,
I used a pattern my sister bought on Ebay. It's Simplicity 3802 (size A), and includes patterns for these smocks as well as several aprons. It's such an easy pattern (the first one I've ever used! Told you I was a novice.) that you might be able to fudge one of your own without dropping a penny, especially if you alter the pattern to two identical front and back pieces with side ties. That would only require two pieces of fabric, sewn at the shoulder seams, rimmed with bias tape, and fastened with added ties.

    Rebecca,
Yes, new! I didn't make it myself, though.
