There's a strange pleasure in vicariously experiencing the first, fresh reading of books you feel are old friends. All summer long, Millie chewed through book after book, and I was happy to introduce her to some of my old favorites. If you've not had the pleasure, may I also introduce you to
Homer Price ?
I read Homer Price with the boys this summer and everyone LOVED it! My library also has it on cassette tape which we borrow for no less than 8 weeks straight and listened to it for as many nights before bed. I finally got them hooked on something else...Pippi Longstocking and she enjoyed the same love as Homer. The only problem was that all conversation had the underlying tones of "Life according to Homer and Pippi...I heard it from the book, so it must be true..."
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for Homer! You probably already know about it, but there's a sequel called "Tales from Centerburg," too, and it's also great.
ReplyDeleteI need to read more chapter books to the girls. Our practice of doing so fell by the wayside once I started school with Millie, but there's really no good reason that it did, and your comment has inspired me to get off my duff!
