Wearing the same tasteful outfit she wore yesterday morning (only with the addition of a markered forhead) she brought a feather to the door. "Look, Mama!" she gasped, "I found a raccoon fevver!"
I always think she is so funny. When I was at your house for Millie's party last year, she kept pointing out the "fi' tuck" (fire truck) and asking me to pick her up to see it (or maybe when I already had her picked up she wanted to see it.) It was a neighbor's vehicle with a light on it, and it took me a while to figure out that's what she was calling a fire truck. When I said, "Oh, is that the fire truck over there?" she said "Yeahm" (I always think it's funny how toddlers often say "Yeah" with an "m" at the end, so that it sounds like Yum) and stared at it with glassy eyes before grinning, pointing at it and saying "Fi' tuck! Fi' tuck!" again.
She seems quite intent when there's something that interests her. She kept sticking something through the fence at our house, and calling the chickens insistently, and probably would have kept on doing so forever if I hadn't suggested going in to see them. Then that sounded even more fun!
Then she was just so intent on picking the chickens up. She kept trying over and over, and the pullets and cockerels kept slipping away from her, while the grown-up chickens were much too fast. Susannah kept shrieking and grabbing at them inside the coop addition, with them all eating and moving around away from her, which frustrated her greatly (and yet she seemed to be having a great time, too). "It's a-wight! It's awight! It's awight!" she kept saying, because she'd heard me say it. Millie loved the chickens too, but she didn't have the same frantic intentness upon picking them up as Susannah did.
When Susannah did manage to pick one up, a huge, most satisfied smile appeared on her face. But if the chicken squawked and struggled, she said, "Ah! Ah! Oh. Oh." and put it down, wiping her hands on her pants. :D Once she did get scratched a little, or maybe a chicken had pecked some feed from her a little too hard, and she came over to me and said in a most morose voice "Kiss it". Then she was perfectly satisfied and happy again, and went back to grabbing chickens.
All in all I found it very amusing, and find Susannah very amusing as well.
Cadie, I liked that tale. She's so cute when her attention is fixed on something, and I'm glad she amuses you! It's a world better than annoying you. :) I always appreciate your kind interest in and care of the girls when we visit. They love you guys, and I don't wonder why!
Rebecca, The satisfaction fairly oozes from that grin, eh?

I am so pleased her smile was caught in that bottom picture because that smile is so reflective of her. THAT is Susannah's, for sure.
ReplyDeleteRaccoon feather?!? She is a clever girl!
