I was remembering that it was her birthday yesterday, as my younger siblings tried to come up with April Fool's jokes, which mostly involved saying something that wasn't true and then saying "April Fool's!"
(P.S. - Did you see G-mail's April Fool's joke yesterday? The great "CADIE" A.I., an "autopilot" artificial intelligence which would, if you signed up for it, respond to your e-mails for you by analyzing with her superior artificial intelligence what the appropriate response would be, as well as other things. This "CADIE" thing Google supposedly created got out of hand, so that Google "wasn't sure what she was anymore".
It was one of their more elaborate jokes, with many web pages they set up for the joke, explaining in long-winded and technical yet ridiculous language what the CADIE was. They even set up a blog for her (created to look like a MySpace page), where CADIE wrote scientifical-jargon posts as well as goopy-girl exclamations over her <3 for Pandas. Also a YouTube page and links to other pages, showing you what books CADIE reads, or a link to a page where you can ask CADIE questions about any programming language and CADIE will understand and respond. (When you asked a question and clicked the button, it didn't do anything, of course.)
As you can imagine, CADIE got thousands of comments on her blog, such as:
"Hi Cadie, Welcome to your first day of full sentience , we hope you enjoy it !!"
"Cadie, what is the square root of negative 1?"
"CADIE what will you do when they unplug you"
"I wish ppl would stop calling this an April Fool's joke... it hurts CADIE's feelings... and makes Pandas cry." (Waaaaa!)
"How can Cadie be perfect? How can cadie be perfect if perfect is defined by cadie. If cadie defines her perfection how does she know she is right? what is right? What maxim does Cadie assume? How does CADIE feel?" (I know, these questions continually fill my mind, too.)
"Hey, Cadie. If a tree falls in the forest, do you hear it?"
"CADIE, I'd like to ask your permission to name my first born child after you. May I?"
Hmm...get back to me on that. LOL!
The CADIE acryonym stood for something which I can't remember.
Some things Google wrote on their page explaining CADIE amused me, as well. (When I appy it to me, since my name is Cadie, it's funny at any rate)
"CADIE now is, in essence, just another Google employee, albeit a particularly prized one." (Woo-hoo!)
"In which direction will CADIE's consciousness evolve? How is she going to be held accountable, if at all?" (I'll have to think about these profound questions.)
"Will CADIE herself at some point connect her own electromagnetic dots in some idiosyncratic manner which turns her into something we are no longer capable of understanding in any sort of productive way, much as that aforementioned toddler, waving at herself in the mirror, leaves primates forever behind in their own tragically limited world?" (You primates. You're tragically limited. I on the other hand, am sitting here connecting my electromagnetic dots.)
"We started this project as a continuation of mankind's perpetual quest to learn the nature of reason and what defines us as humans." (That's funny, because there's a running joke in my family that I don't know if I'm alive or dead, because of a question I asked when very young. Now I'm trying to figure out what defines us as humans.)
Anyway, obviously I got a kick out of it. "Welcome to your first day of full sentience!" they say; Thanks; I'm still trying to figure out if I'm alive or dead over here.
That's too funny! I saw their advertisement for it when I went to check my email, but my eyes glazed over, and I didn't even investigate. Sounds like I should have!
(I'm going to watch your evolution with great interest!)
Hope her celebration was a swashbuckling, trumpeting success!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Annie!
Aye, matey - hope you had a wonderful fool's birthday, Annie!
