Tales of the Kingdom

I was reading it to the girls one morning.  Piper was supposed to be getting dressed for the day while she listened, but she couldn't listen and get dressed at the same time.  She was so endearing bare-bodied and peering over the top of the book that I reached over to the coffee table for my camera and snapped a picture.

Okay.  Two pictures.

You would have done the same.

  1. I have been anxiously looking for some good titles in which to preoccupy my girls time.

Two recent incidences made the need more vexing:

    1) I noticed her library selection and five of the chapter books had belly bearing, hoop earring clad Bratz-type figures on the cover and were entitled "How I survived Middle School" and "Best Friends Unite". Twaddle.

    2) One night I saw the result of her looking through the boxes of books we STILL haven't unpacked~ a book half-way read called Love's Enduring Promise by Janette Oke which is, in effect, a wholesome, Christian romance novel.

I guess they have their place for lighthearted, mushy gushy gals who need a moment of pure pleasure for themselves (though I grew out of the pleasure-induced Christian Romance novel phase LONG ago). But EVEN STILL. It is a genre that requires a mature audience.

Little girls, as she is still in my mind, need not worry a thing about lovey dovey romance things until they are AT LEAST 21. ;-)

In response to that last occurrence, I convinced her to read Augustine Came to Kent (which she utterly enjoyed and BONUS-was a Story of the World recommendation!) and the situation was thwarted. As for Janette Oke, she and all her cronies may find themselves on the yard sale table come spring.

Anyway. I don't know where that torrent came from other than it has been as frontlets before my eyes these days.

So any time children sit naked and entranced in a book-let me know! ;-)

  2. #1. There are several great book lists I can send you links to if you're interested, tho' you've probably got your own lists, anyway. (The Tales of the Kingdom series has a special spot in my bookish heart, but that could be because the illustrations are stunning, plus I have strong, fond memories of them from my childhood.)

#2. Come and thumb through our bookshelves! Yes, this is a blatant attempt to lure you for a visit, but you're more than welcome to borrow from us as you would from a library.

#3. I hate Christian Romance fiction. On many levels. For many reasons. Yes, I am a grinch.

#4. Augustine Came to Kent is on our bookshelves. See! You should visit! You should thumb through our books! You should borrow! You should....

    Okay, I'm pathetic.

  3. Lists, lists Oh I would so love some lists! As long as they are already written out and it is just a matter of cut and pasting.

Otherwise, I will just continue to sneak at shotsnap pictures and read titles.

And yes, snoop within the Shotsnaps command center. ;-)
