Dutiful

Look at me, posting all timely and regular and suchlike.  There must be something horrible I'm avoiding. Yesterday, the whole family went adventuring, but I took no pictures, so you may have Friday's snapshots instead.

Ezekiel Walker Owen has discovered a new favorite game.  (He's worse than a kitten.)

It is not my new favorite game.  (He's also better than a kitten.)

Two days in a row, the children soaked their bathing suits and bones in  heavy summer rains.  I took no pictures because the battery died immediately upon snapping this one of Zeke on the steps.

I love making yogurt and do so regularly.  May I suggest one should never forget one is making yogurt, though?  Instead of a gallon of yogurt, I was left with a quart of evaporated milk.  I suppose it's a useful trick to store up your sleeve if you need evaporated  milk and have a couple of hours to spare.

To serve as caboose, here's a picture of one of the elderberry bushes wrapped in fog, because Susannah requested it.

  1. He's so studious, though; surely that's a quality to be admired?

  2. As the proud owner of an Ezekiel myself (however we slapped Tobias on there, just because we were concerned that name Ezekiel wouldn't raise enough eyebrows. Ezekiel Tobias raised ALL of them to our expectations), I have to say that the name must invoke cuteness and mischievousness and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Excuse me now, I believe my coffee cake is burning.

  3. Titi,
The (not-so) funny thing is that now that he knows their location, he immediately makes a beeline for them anytime we're upstairs. I'm swearing off yarn balls for now...

    Bonnie,
Ha! That's cool! Because of your blog-names for the children, I hadn't realized that you had named him Ezekiel, even though I remember you commenting after our Zeke came along that it was on your short list. You definitely made the right choice. :)

And if you think Ezekiel Tobias raises eyebrows, try explaining to television-soaked people that your son is NOT named after a Texas Ranger. Sigh. Where's Walker Percy when you need him.

p.s. I'd happily take a slice, burnt and all, if screens allowed.

  4. Confession: I visit and don't comment either. I'm on the cheeky side and while I'm sure you wouldn't take it wrong, I try not to play the part of the fool and utter-eth things I maybe shouldn't-eth.
Our first son, Brady (for short) is a junior. Everyone thought we named him after the hometown footballs teams start quarter back. "Oh! You named him after Brady______!" "No, we named after his daddy." "Oh." So I get that completely.

The cake was fortunately not burnt, and I would gladly have shared a slice.

  5. Footballs?
Please mentally remove my plural causing "S" so I don't have to delete and retype my comment which is making me crazy now, knowing that there is a spelling error.

  7. I changed my mind. I *DO* want a kitten.

    This one.

(And I won't be needing any satin ribbon to go with him thankyouverymuch.)

  8. B.,
You could just give children really rare names like "Mildred." I've never had ANYONE say, "OH, yeah! You named her after..."

    I didn't even notice the extra "s."

Also, we like cheeky around here. Don't be a stranger!

    Mary,
Glad to see that you're reading my posts! As lame as it is, it does kind of make blogging worth it to know people are actually reading what I slap on here. Hope you're having a great week!

    Rebecca,
Sorry. This one's already been claimed by a strange couple who has satin ribbons in all the colors of the rainbow. You'll have to take the orange kitten, instead.

  9. B.onnie,

Didn't mean to exclude the rest of your name. There.

  10. I love Zeke's stripes. I have received a few baby boy presents and they are all stripes.

  11. I really like these photos.

It really aggravates me how Lucy STILL enjoys playing with yarn. I have to keep it all up high.

  12. Hi Abigail
I have just wondered across to here from Rebecca's blog. Your blog is lovely - I look forward in further exploring!!!
    Have a beautiful day
    Blessings
    Renata:)
P.S. Is it alright if I add you to my blogroll? That way I can come and visit again when I get the chance!!

  13. Carly,
Yes! Stripes! I love them, too.

    Elizabeth,
This is not encouraging to hear. :)

    Renata,
Hullo and thank you! Of course you can tack me on your blogroll! A word of warning, though... sometimes I'm an awful blogger and months stretch between posts. As you can see, I've been dutiful lately. :)
p.s. You have a lovely name! My best friend in kindergarten was named "Rena," and I think it's beautiful.

  14. Thanks for the compliment about my name. I've always loved it. My parents were on a two year working holiday in Europe when I was born and that is where they heard it. Renata means born again which I think is pretty special (especially since Mum and Dad weren't Christians whenI was born).
    Sorry....long explanation:)
