Piper Joy is now five! I know time flies; I've seen it firsthand.
She is thrilled and insists that she's now the same age as Susannah. Both the concept that Susannah grows older at the same rate she does and the fact that she can never catch up are lost on her.

She requested waffles for her birthday breakfast, and a triple batch fed six little people. They like waffles.
We were at a wedding for seven hours of her day, so I quickly frosted the cake when we got home close to eight, and we started her party after bedtime. It was a long day, but she said she'd rather not wait, even though her mother would have chosen otherwise. (Mean, nasty mother.)
The green volcano cake is actually Rabbit's house, with Pooh wedged in the side, with, I realize too late, backwards wedging. O, Tired Mama of Little Brain.
The best part is that since we had all just returned from a wedding at which we stuffed ourselves with all manner of rich food before topping it off with large slabs of cake, only three people ate cake at the party. Since two of them were the unflaggingly well-mannered Luke and Jae-Ryong, only one counts.
A four layer cake with basic cream filling, slathered with pounds of fresh buttercream....blechh.
We love you, Sugarplum! Grow bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger, but just don't overtake Susannah.
