Perigee : Blood Moon

Even better than staying awake until the full showing of the blood moon/supermoon was waking up all my soundly dreaming children on their request.  Most returned straightway to bed after a few bleary-eyed but appreciative minutes.  Piper and Annika stayed and star-watched with me for a while, and we saw two white-hot shooting stars streak above us before we returned to our covers.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

  1. Those are EXCELLENT pictures! Thank you for posting these. We almost missed it but for the paper delivery at 5:00 a.m. Unfortunately, the Blood Moon was retreating to the ever-so-faint sunrise as the sun was preparing to make it's daily grand entrance.

    Much love!

  2. Yeah, I was happy that the timing was pretty perfect for us this time-- a few hours past bedtime but not in the middle of the night. If it had been much later, I would have snored right through it.

  3. Your photos are amazing! We had heard about the moon at a party the day before and, unfortunately, took the word of the people instead of looking up the proper time. I woke up only to find that it was at the tail end of things and a dark shadow was only at the finishing edge of it. I tried to take a picture of it anyway- but being blind as a bat with a camera that doesn't auto focus...well, didn't quite work. I didn't bother to wake up the children but a few minutes later, Judah came blearily eyed down the stairs and said he wanted to see the "Wed Moon". Then the three others followed...they had set their alarms without me even knowing.

I'll have to show them these pictures so they can live vicariously through you!

  4. The moon, though bright in this picture, was still too dim for the camera to focus. Even with manual focus, I couldn't get a completely sharp image, so you're justified (especially with no glasses) in it all!

Luci was so bleary the next morning that she couldn't even remember getting out of bed, let alone what the moon looked like! I showed her these pictures. She was not impressed. :)
