Real Time

Just now, as I sat on the couch nursing the baby, I glanced out the (open! spring-breezy! glorious!) window and noticed an older neighbor jogging past.

"Psssst! ANNIKA!" I stage whispered into the next room, "Look out the window!  The old man runner is running past!" (Yes, I'm a snoop.  No, I don't know who he is or where he lives, but I think he must live somewhere along the length of our long road, because we occasionally see him jogging on Sunday mornings on our way to church.)

Annika dropped her grammar book and peered out the window.  "Yeah, it's him," she said, and then without missing a beat, she observed thoughtfully, "He runs like you...except he's faster."

I then laughed loudly enough to bring Millie wondering down the stairs.

For the record, this man appears to be about 70 or 75 years old, and he runs all hunched over like one would expect an elderly man runner to run.  The best part?  I can't even argue with her.  The truth shall set you free!

  1. Snooper's update: I think he might actually live in the closest town SIX MILES AWAY as we also see him jogging there as we drive by. A while after posting this, he passed our house again, only he was jogging in the opposite direction, so perhaps he's heading home...SIX MILES AWAY.

I have so much admiration for this man.

  2. A daughter just came in and saw me publish that comment.

"You're the only one who comment on your blog," she said.

    "SO WHAT?!?!?" I replied.

    So what.

  7. Hahahahahaha! Yes, I am laughing!! That was all very amusing! I'm trying to go to sleep because we're getting up at 4:15 a.m. (yuck!)
to walk - not run - a mile. Ha! We're ridiculous compared to the athletic elderly in your neck of the woods. I am very impressed!

  8. Heidi,
Hugs right back, even squishier! I would love to catch up with you. Anytime you're able to visit, yes, please!

    Molly,
I admire you both! If there's one thing I cling to, it's every last drop of sleep I can squeeze from a night. Who needs running? Walking is much easier on the knees. Keep up the good work!
