Real Time to Remember (with a nod to steaming caffeine)

It's been a long time since we owned a microwave-- long enough that the child who is currently washing dishes was flummoxed by a mug's inscription that it was dishwasher and microwave safe and mused, "Why would anyone want to put a CUP in the MICROWAVE?!"

Why, indeed.

That's pretty much the only thing I miss about a microwave-- the easy reheating of tea and coffee. And now I'm off for my second cup...

  1. Coffee is rare for me (tho' I have a deep and abiding affection for it, my heart does not), and second cups of tea are rare, too.

Today is the second day in a row that I'm having a second cup of tea, tho', all before noon.

    It's a humdinger week!

  2. p.s.
This was practically an Instagram post.

I should probably post a picture of what I ate for breakfast, too, and perhaps the current view out of the window.

    Sigh. Procrastination.

  3. I'd feel more fulfilled if you had...

  4. Well, you should be happy.
I just posted breakfast and snow snapshots, which should be enough for a lifetime's worth of fulfillment. That's how great our friendship is!

  5. We have had a microwave only because they’re built into our cabinets- when we lived in Lulu we didn’t have one and my bad habit of leaving my tea until it was tepid became a terrible burden. Josh started calling the undrunk cups of tea the “sacrificial mugs.” We have one here and I don’t waste my tea bags any longer.
I also microwave wet sponges because the nutrition teacher at Houghton told me to, and it keeps them from smelling.
Also, Josh bought these bizarre muffin-in-a-cup things that are delicious but so wrong. I’m suspicious of my microwave, but it doesn’t stop me from eating a warm blueberry muffin in a cup.

  6. Ha! Sacrificial mugs-- I love that. I've taken to reheating tea and coffee on the stovetop, and as happy as I am to not have a microwave, I can't deny that they lose something in stovetop reheating that they don't lose in microwave radiation. The taste just isn't the same.

And, oh! Before I tossed the microwave, Millie had taken to making me microwave mug cakes so frequently that I thought she might be trying to kill me through a heart attack. She was on course to try every last recipe on the internet before I foiled her entirely. If only there were stove-top mug cakes...though, I suppose, there are just cakes. A cake a day would kill me even faster. I'll have to let her know.
