For those who don't know, Captain, the tiny, old horse who wanders around our yard and (once!) into our living room, does not actually belong to us. When Aponi was a young girl, Andy gave Captain to her, and since horses find it harder to travel to Alaska than humans do, he stayed behind with new owners when they moved 11 years ago.
Aponi has a special love and affection for him, and he's one of the few physical memories left from her childhood, as she, along with Andy and Wendy, tragically lost the bulk of their sentimental belongings a few years back in their barn fire.
She hasn't been to NY in the 2 and 1/2 years since she asked us to care for him, and in that time, Captain has had a few close calls. Every time, I prayed that the Lord would preserve his life until Aponi could see him another time. He's over 30 years old, and when I heard she and Zack were coming to visit in April with their twins, my prayers grew more frequent.
Praise the Lord, he happily munched his way into April, and she was able to sit her babies on top of him.
Phew. Mission accomplished.
(I'm posting these 3 pictures only because I thought it was cute when Zack put Aponi's sunglasses on for her.)
Who knows? Maybe in a couple of years (or less, Aponi, or LESS!), we can get an updated picture of these bigger babies on Captain's back. The way he's stubbornly persisted so far, I wouldn't be entirely surprised.
