Nope, She's Not My Grandbaby (March 2024)

I didn't know before I became pregnant with Mallory that there's a social stigma surrounding mothers having newborn daughters when they're old enough to also have grandaughters. At this point I've had enough people wonderingly ask if it's hard to have a daughter close in age to my grandchildren that I know it's not an uncommon assumption, along with a few disapproving looks and comments.

How silly.

How sad.

How absolutely wrong.

This is what it looks like to be a woman who has both gray hair and a 3-month baby in arms. She was new life in a hard season. She's a delight. She's a gift from a good Creator.  She's our joy.

(Thanks to Mildred for taking these pictures on that Easter Sunday.)

  1. I get asked ALL OF THE TIME if Ollie is mine. I get called his grandma by so many people- and people would look at 17 year old Lucy with a one year old and me with a one year old and be equally confused. It’s happened so many times that I now think it’s so funny. I like being 48 with a four year old.

    1. Ha! Exactly that. If any of the older girls held Mallory when we were out and about, the automatic assumption was that I was *obviously* the grandmother. 😂

  2. I think it's glorious that you're having children and grandchildren all at the same time! Keep up the awesome! People who look down on you for that must be jealous or crazy or intimidated. Something's wrong somewhere. :-)

    1. Thanks, Nan! Jealous and crazy and intimidated-- they just don't know it yet. We'll keep up the awesome; however, it's looking like we won't achieve Phil's qualifications for anything other than a pitiful attempt. And we're so stinking close to a dozen! 😭

    2. Well... perhaps Phil will send you a nice little consolation ribbon anyway. One that says "Participant" :-)

  3. I'm holding you to that! Lo, these multudinous years of hard labor, all the while with our eyes on Phil's prize...😂
