27+ Weeks

Do you know how hard it is to take pictures of oneself using a camera propped on a narrow window ledge?
No?

It's hard.

I almost had a heart attack when the camera teetered, but I managed to catch it and apply a false masque of serenity for these two blurry shots.

Mags, you'll be pleased to know that I'm going to get my hair chopped off a bit. Just the dead parts, though. (You know, the bottom 8 inches or so.) Before chopping off the red, I wanted to prove that with the spring sun near my hair, Susannah's not a red-headed changeling. Too bad that these pictures make it look more red than it is. People will still think she's a changeling.

And here's the picture in which I remember that it's not flattering to leave one's arms against one's sides when one has gained nearly two stones, and one still has three months left to go before the 40 weeks are up.

In which I adjust the arms appropriately...

And then, because I can't bear to be dishonest, having deleted all pictures that showed more truly the divine flabbiness...er....roundness of my form (this is true), here's what happens when the camera goes berserk and fires away without allowing me to present my best face (this is somewhat true).

These are in order, just as they occurred in real life.

The worst part was when the camera leaped off the ledge and came at my face in a relentless search for truth.
I barely escaped with my life.

  1. In those last photos you look like someone who has just come face to face with a placenta . . . (hehehe)

  2. Oh Abby, those made me laugh out loud...very loud. :) That is some chin-less wonder I'd say!!! I think pregnancy must bring it out...or down, or whatever.
And you are so honest to post all the pictures...in the first 2, I must admit, I was a little worried that you haven't been gaining enough weight--those skinny, well-placed arms of yours. ;)
And your hair!! How long it has grown! You'll have to post some more shots of the new hair cut.

  3. Abby, You Look Beautiful (well, you look stunning in the first photos, then second make me laugh because you have to force your face in to give yourself a double chin, while SOME of us have been blessed with one or two that are permanently fixed to our faces...ahem (clearing throat) :)
All I can say to the first are beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!

  4. With every visit to shotsnaps I get a hearty laughfest. Thanks for not disappointing!

You really do look beautiful and Buster is growing very well! Incredibly so-do you find you are bigger with each pregnancy or is that just a 'wives tale'??

My friend is due to have her 11th baby this week and she started looking full term at about 6 months! :-)

  5. Ps. Forgot to mention how beautiful your hair is! Gorgeous! I jut cut some of the dead off my hair-about an inch is all I could muster and even with that small bit, my hair feels so short! Probably because my hair takes two years to grow an inch!

  6. the title of these should be- from handsome to hilarious! from beautiful to belly-aching!
    from gorgeous to giggling!

I love these pictures, and love the elephant before them, too, but really, your arms are not even close to flabby.

i love these pictures. i laughed the whole time.

  7. you're a nut; a loon; a real wacky lady; the fact that you take strange photos of yourself and post them up for the whole world to see makes me glad we're kin; I hope my children get a whopping dose of your genes

  9. I, too, sat here laughing. You look great!
And...arm flab? Come on - I certainly can beat YOU in this area, although, I'm reluctant to post pics!

  10. i still wonder...

is that really the chinless wonder, or the dozen-chinned wonder?

  11. The Chinless Wonder never fails to please the masses. It pleased this mass (of me) very thoroughly.

Still, the photos in which you did not contort yourself are of a very lovely mother (with VERY long hair, holy moly!) with none of the evidence you'd promised to give even with the arms-at-one's-sides photo (something I didn't fail to notice when choosing my own postable pics to measure the growth of belly, babe and, ah-hem... arm flab through to, now 39 weeks.) I'm not brave enough (or maybe not even lovely enough) to go through with any chinless wonder pics, though I'm sure I could ugly you under the table any day!!!!!

You look beautiful and motherly (and I don't mean earth mother, lest you put words in my mouth) and well.

  13. Rundy,
    HA! Exactly right.

    Michelle,
    Will do. When it's chopped.

    Elizabeth,
Pffft! Being pregnant makes you silly, Little Miss Three Pounds. :)

    Rebecca,
To quote my eager self when the high-risk doctor asked if I have trouble gaining weight in the last trimester, "Oh, NO, SIR! I'm always VERY good at gaining weight. No problem there...." And then my voice trailed off awkwardly when I realized that I was speaking very loudly in an echoing room, just like that. I think I might notice if I only gained weight in my belly, but it seems like each pregnancy, I pleasantly inflate all over in equal amounts. My belly does pop out more quickly, though I don't know if its size is bigger or not.

    Sarah,
Be very, VERY careful about what you wish for...

    Heidi,
Only a dozen?! Surely my superpower warrants more than that. (I think you may be right.)

    Sandy,
Don't worry. I still cull out the most realistic photos, excepting the chinless/dozen-chinned ones. Those are 100% authentic.

To the rest of you flatterers, keep it coming! It really is wonderful and funny to know that I have such wonderful readers as I move once more into the forty-odd-pounds-by-nine-months range. Buster loves you, too.
