Two weeks ago, I contemplated entering the 5k race that my brother and sister-friend-in-law are running on September 1st. I felt up to it because I've been slogging somewhat regularly all summer, lately for almost 3 and 1/2 miles each night, but I may have ruined things by inexplicably crashing for the last week and a half.
I haven't run in over a week. (A few days were cold and rainy. Pitiful excuse.)
I've been eating SO MUCH junk food. (Seriously, truckloads of candy.)
I've been mad at myself for wasting sinful amounts of time on the computer and on the couch and on the chair staring into space, during what are the busiest weeks of the year! Waiting for me are cannerloads of garden bounty to preserve, homeschooling preparations, house de-cluttering, chicken coop shoveling, more basement junk hauling, and house painting yet unfinished, for Pete's sake.
I've just been so very tired.
So yesterday afternoon, with a foolish grin splitting my face and joy leaping in my chest, a very small slothful part of me stood apart, simply thankful for justification.
you ARE pregnant?
ReplyDeleteIf you ARE pregnant I have two things to say to you:
ReplyDelete1) I saw the Smoky post and for a moment, my heart leapt into my chest as I said "I KNEW IT!" only to read 'Smoky'. Stinker.
But after this post, I believe I am completely justified in saying it.
I KNEW IT.
(I think)
I KNEW you were pregnant!
What gave it away? I will tell you (if I am right.)
If I am wrong, 'twill be duly noted and I will swallow my tongue.
oh yes- #2 was;
ReplyDeleteI KNEW IT. (Forgot to number it. tsk, tsk.)
Is this ... is this poppy seed a going to sprout into something amazingly wonderful? With little fluttering feet and hands and more of those beautiful eyes? Yes? (If so.... this is fabulous and happy!)
ReplyDeleteMaybe, just maybe, this poppy seed will have beautiful eyes. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, Rebecca, next time you figure it out before I do, could you let me in on the secret, please? Yesterday morning after I complained to my Mom about my laziness and lack of gumption, she immediately asked, "Are you pregnant?" to which I replied with a snort, "No."
Then my eyes smarted and drooped for the rest of the day, and I almost dozed off on the floor, so I took a test. Yup, whaddya know. And it is fabulous and happy news! (So much better than a diagnosis of narcolepsy...)
Yea! Congratulations Abby!
ReplyDeleteA very blessed "Poppy Seed" indeed to be joining such a loving family! Congratulations on this glorious news!!! I am very happy for all of you.
ReplyDeleteMuch Love!
You are such a fertile mertle! I love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, happy day! This is indeed a wonderous diagnosis over narcolepsy :) ha ha! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI think you were happy for a lot more than justification for sloth, my friend!!! But it does put in perspective the relative importance of painting walls, does it not? Prayers for blessings on your poppy seed, that it would grow to a bump and turn into a pitter-patter of little feet and wide eyes!
ReplyDeleteMy brain works very slow even at the best of times, so when Laura told me that I needed to read your latest post, I read it over, and over, and thought, "yes, this is very nice, the cat is pregnant." Then I read the comments and realized the good news...Only just now, b/c the house is quiet, did I read slowly enough to realize that your hints all but gave it away!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm smiling big for you! I told my mom and sister that my blog friend is having her 6th baby and they asked me how I knew you. I told them that strictly speaking I didn't "know" you, but I've been keeping up with your family since your 3rd little girl was just a baby!
Such fantastic news!
Congratulations to the whole family!! So exciting!
ReplyDeleteoh, yaaaayyyyyy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations & love & blessings!
xoxo.
Too Funny..I have DUH in big bold letters across my forehead. I read your post (now I give myself a little credit, I read it quickly) and didn't get it at all..After I read the end I thought "..that's nice, she found justification.." ;) Not UNDERSTANDING what that meant!!! LOL, my darling sister asked me today if I read your post and if I knew you were pregnant when I responded "are you sure it's not the cat?!?" LOL LOL LOL :)
ReplyDeleteHUGE CONGRATULATIONS OWENS I am So Very Happy for You! :)
Oh CONGRATULATIONS Abby and John! Wish I could have been there on Sunday to say it in person. We had more funeral dealings to contend with. I was just telling Matt how I am ready for the season of FUNERALS to be past and the season of weddings or babies to start back up again! So THANK YOU ABBY! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd let me get this straight: you mean you didn't KNOW on Sunday? I told Matt on the way home from church (two weeks ago) that I just *knew* you were pregnant. And he said "hmmm". Like "whatever".
He ought to know by now I am usually right about these things.
And no, it had NOTHING to do with your shamefully *FLAT* stomach Missy! Knowing you, you won't look pregnant until you are nearly pushing that sweet poppy seed OUT. :-)
Wooo hoo!!! Baby #6, that's wonderful! Congratulations Abby & John!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see another one of your beautiful children :)
Thanks, everyone! God is so good, and we are glad to announce the presence of another little soul in the world.
ReplyDeleteRebecca, thank the Lord that He balances out the ever-present season of death with the equally present advent of life. I hope you and Matt are comforted in this time. (Nope- didn't have a clue on Sunday.)
As far as my "announcement" goes (Carly, Elizabeth, and anyone else who just didn't get it), it's not your fault! I'm the only person I know who's so obtuse in giving good news.
So, yeah, I'm pregnant! Three cheers!
much love from
F. Mertle
or Myrtle.
ReplyDeleteMirtle?
Murtle??
Mehrtle?
p.s. Jamie, I love that you read this blog! I always forget until you comment on baby news. A surefire way to get a comment... :)
ReplyDeleteHooray!!! Josh will be excited when I tell hime, but that was me gushing in his name. Oh, the fun of sharing a computer.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! So happy for all y'all!
Thanks, Mrs. SCPT. :)
ReplyDeleteHave you guys bought a 15 passenger van yet for the family? You're going to need one soon. :) Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWith the amount of gas those vans chew through, maybe we should just stick with the smaller vehicles until we no longer can! We have to squeak as many miles as we can out of our old 7-passenger first, anyway. We're pushing 200,000 miles. Here's hoping!
ReplyDeletep.s. How's Maine? Fresh blueberries again?! :)
