County Fair 2021

These pictures are a mix from camera and phone. Any garish greens and blues are from the cheap phone, which seems to think that everything natural should automatically be enhanced to look unnatural.

The fair was canceled in 2020, and NY was still so shuttered in 2021 that we didn't know the fair was going to take place until a couple of weeks beforehand. We had other commitments that kept us from entering anything, but we still went to visit for a day. Paying for rides and elephant ears out of pocket feels a little different than using fair winnings to pay for it all, but I have no regrets. :)

First off, the beautiful truck we parked near and which Annika was tempted to steal.

The little ones adore Millie, with good reason.

This goat kept trying to nibble Pippi's flowers

Skylark and Aidan were scared of the goats. Their interaction was the funniest thing we saw at the fair all day.

We watched some old family friends place blue ribbons in most of their cattle showings.

And then we spent some time in the cow barns so Annika could squeal over scenes like this.

Tractors were next on the docket.

Then....rides!

The little girls rode the little swings.

Pip, Luci, Millie, and the boys rode the big swings.

And with all that, what was the scariest thing of the whole fair? THE GRANDSTAND.

Cadence was terrified of all the Cadence-sized gaps that dropped to an abyss below.

Skylark was nervous when she saw Cadence crying, but she still gingerly made her way to the top while I sat below with the timid bunny.

And the crowning jewel, as always, are the elephant ears that I still can't figure out how to perfectly replicate in the home kitchen. Funnel cakes are easy to make, but elephant ears are still elusive. Both crispy and chewy and perfectly magical, how do they do it?
