Zeke Hits Double Digits

Ten is such a satisfying, solid age. Lucky Zeke hit the zenith last year! At ten, one gains the respect and privileges due to double digits while still both fully enjoying childhood and steering clear of pre-pubescent angst. As the cherry on top, one's tenth birthday around these parts also brings a large quilt from Grandma Johnson to replace the tattered shreds of the baby quilt that's seen a decade of hard use.

As if all that weren't good enough, Zeke's birthday fell on a Sunday, which necessitated a speedier breakfast before heading out, so I made overnight blueberry French toast. We had something special for supper (can't remember for the life of me what it was) and then celebrated a second, more leisurely birthday breakfast on Monday morning, replete with birthday couch and crown.

Zeke even roasted the pumpkins for his pancakes.

(SKYLARK!!! She's at her wish-robbing tricks again.)

Then, after stuffing ourselves with a (second) birthday supper that night, Zeke opened his presents, including The Quilt.

Happy birthday, Ezekiel Walker! Each day you walk more straight and true, more fine and true, our Little Boy Blue. Your song becomes solid the more you grow, dear, and we're so grateful for you.
