Pipsqueak and Her Skunk
During all the chaos upstairs, Piper Joy was industriously turning eleven! Susannah and Zeke woke up early to transform the birthday couch (a practice that now carries the cement of Tradition), and I made her a fancy birthday breakfast of waffles, berry sauce, and freshly whipped cream before I ignored her for the next six hours. She handled it with ease.
Goading my crazy behavior was the fact that Pip wanted to decorate her own cake this year. Sigh. Big girls. What can you do? (Other than replying, "Are you sure?" and then, "Oh, good!" before running upstairs to make a mess and paint things...)
I made a simple skunk outline for her, and Pip did the rest.
No matter how she grows, Piper Joy will always be our little Luddy Duddy Nut Berry Sugarplum.
After birthday supper, she even insisted on lighting the cake herself. I guess she really is grown now.
Oh, Piper Joy, our little Pip. You are rounding the corner toward the land of Big. May God gently bring you from here to there, and may He grow your spirit along with all else. You are precious. We all love you BIG.
Happy birthday!
