wow. way to make a girl feel guilty about walmart.
(in regards to seed post)
Seriously though-you weren't the only one in the dark so thanks for sharing that info. Scary. Important. What do you mean about 5 years too late? Well, we can talk more about it on Sunday. Guess there is no slow pace for us afterall.
But, the good from it is this: you are rising to the occasion.
I just read your email, and I'll respond to it later, but I wanted to hop on here to let you know that I'm NOT rising to the occasion! I wish I could, but right now I'm swamped, and if I try to do all I feel I should, I'll explode into a million bits of chaotic confetti.
I am ordering some seeds from Fedco and a few from Johnny's (ancho/poblanos, anyone?), but a lot of the garden will be sown with mass-distributed, evil [ :) ] seed my mom and I bought in bulk last year. From Agway. GASP!
A certain classical education guru said that if we don't feel overwhelmed, we're doing something wrong, because we're trying to give our children an education that we did not have ourselves. One step at a time is enough. If we improve our practices, Lord willing, our children will improve on those practices, and so forth. This outlook is applicable for so much more than education. If we are faithful in our flawed attempts to love God, love our neighbors, and live rightly, I trust His faithfulness to future generations. Those alone are work enough for many lifetimes!
Sigh. A small step never seems like enough, though, does it?
Oh, yeah! I looked at most of the seed packets from Agway, and Livingston seeds (which Agway carries in smaller packets) are, as far as I could tell, not linked to Seminis/Monsanto at all. One can find online sources that list companies who are supplied by Monsanto and those who are opposed to the same, as well as suppliers who only carry non-genetically modified seed.
Check it out, and next year if you're scurrying around with peat pots on St. Patty's day, you could always speed into Agway instead of The Marts. (I don't judge, either, sister, because, sadly, Walmart sees enough of me. We need toilet paper, people! I'm just not yet willing to use leaves.)
