Introduction to the Ordinary

We've been sick for three weeks, plagued by hacking and sniffles, and now Annika's on antibiotic for a double ear infection and a probable ruptured ear drum on one side. Millie and Susannah are both weathering ear infections without antibiotics, so we've been sleepless and a bit out of sorts around these parts. Things are on the mend, though! To prove it, here are snapshots. Words another day.

so sad to hear you're all sick! and poor Annika! Will her ear drum heal if it's ruptured?
How are you feeling? Any baby updates? We've been praying for you.

While just the sound of "ruptured ear drum" makes my stomach clench up into a knot, it sounds like most of the time it's really not that big of a deal.

It's expected to heal within weeks.

Ruptured ear drums usually heal on their own within a week or two. If a child has a succession of them throughout childhood, their hearing can be impaired, but as my dad-- worrywart RN-- put it: "I had them all the time when I was a kid and I can hear just fine!" Never mind that we used to be able to tell when he was home by the sound of the car radio seeping in through the house's closed windows...

I'm feeling alright, though anything but bright-eyed and bushytailed. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and a midwife appointment with an ultrasound on Thursday, so that's when I'll find out how lazy my placenta has been for the last month.

We've been fighting sickness at our house, but unfortunately it has been coming out the mouth and behind if I can spare you details. I hope you get some rest and your dr. appts go well...I will be waiting in anticipation for the results of your ultrasound (I haven't had my next one yet) Sending hugs your way :) Elizabeth
