If You Would
...join me in a prayer for the surrounding towns. Devastation from flooding is evident everywhere, and even though sun and blue poke through right now on our hill, at the same moment that I sit here cozily typing, thousands of people are displaced from their homes, unsure of what they'll find upon their return. Five years ago, this area experienced what was then called "The Hundred Year Flood" under the assumption that such extensive damage couldn't come regularly. The floods of the last few days, however, are worse and farther-reaching.
I've been thinking of you and Rebecca this morning, Elizabeth, and I hope you're okay!
The girls and I haven't gone out driving (or diving), 'cause I can't muster the energy, so these are photos I lifted from the internet. The girls and I were just here a few days ago; they couldn't believe it.

What devastation, Abigail! My husband has asked me many times if I have contacted you to see how all of you managed through the earthquake and the hurricane. We have been praying for your family's safety and well-being, and we will now broaden our prayers. We are in our own relief effort here in central Texas with the fire outbreaks especially in Bastrop. Over 1400 homes were lost in Bastrop alone. Again, we lift up our prayers.

First, three cheers! I love lurkers, as long as they're not lurking, if you know what I mean. Nice to meet you! Come again, anytime...
Secondly, and more importantly, I'll definitely let you know if I hear anything. I heard that Elizabeth and her family are in a shelter right now, and I called Rebecca earlier this morning, but their phone is out of order, which isn't surprising considering all the power outages there are around here right now. I called Matt's cell, too, but haven't heard anything back yet. I know their creekbed is normally pretty dry by the end of summer, but I saw some pictures of their town that looked bad enough, so I hope all is well.
I'm envisioning their garden swept away :( , but hopefully they're all high and dry.

News flash from downtown Windam:
The Newmans are safe, sound, and dry but our phone lines are still down. Hard to tell when they'll get that fixed; there's a lot of poles down.
Elizabeth and her family are at our house for the time being.
Down our way, practically every road that had a bridge on it is either gone or badly damaged. By comparison, it's probably twice as bad as the flood in 2005.
It's really hard to imagine how extensive the damage really is. Providentially, God protected us from any real harm. But there are many others who don't have a home to go back to, let alone electricity. God works in mysterious ways.

Glad to hear you guys were spared!
I don't know if your cell is operable, so I'll throw this on here in hopes that you see it, but please give us a call if there's anything we can do for Bob and Elizabeth or any other neighbors. Everybody on the mountain is fine, obviously, though John's office in town was completely flooded out. If there's a general work day or any specific needs we could fill, please let us know.
We're praying for all and Bob & Elizabeth, specifically.

Their church building is flooded, their immediate neighbors are flooded, and many from the church are affected, some quite severely, but Beck's house is Apart. It wasn't touched in the last flood nor was it in this one. Something about its placement compared to the others must protect it from channels of water, thank God!
