The Orphan Singer. A fun story with delicate watercolors. As always, the illustrations attract me first. (I also picked up another book by this author which won the Caldecott.) "When a new little girl was chosen for the choral school, word traveled fast and the Dolcis knew it was their Nina. The older girls set out to train and stretch Catarina's angelic voice. She learned the scales and harmonies quickly. In no time she could sing impossible high notes and endless arpeggios."
