Behold, this Child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
-The Gospel of Luke (2:34,35)

Despite finding myself befuddled (but still bright and jolly) in every other area of Things I Should Probably Finish By Next Thursday, I did make a Christmas card yesterday. On Sunday, Mitzi shared a memory from her childhood that greatly moved me, and it sat in the back of my mind as I drew Mary bathing the Child.
I don't have everyone's addresses. If you'd like a Christmas card, and you're unsure of whether or not our address book contains your street, please email me at leftymylou at gmail dot com. Soon! I know I only have outdated addresses for some and none at all for others. (I bought stamps for the occasion!)

The card is beautiful, as always Abigail...I will try my best to simply enjoy it instead of wishing I was that gifted. :)
I love your artwork. I could frame every single one...including the ones that you would draw on your letters...if I could bear to rip them up. One day, upon visiting our home, you might just find some of your work displayed!!
At first glance, I thought you might have had an announcement to make. :-)
It is beautiful and unique. A perfect bearer of great news and good tidings!
Just a reminder to some of you who've emailed me requesting a Christmas card...please include your address so I can honor your request! Seriously, I'm safe-- only a half-hearted stalker-- so I'll use your info. for benign purposes only.
You're all getting one, and, Rebecca,
there are far worthier things to frame than fumbling doodles. (Nope, not that announcement yet! As of this morning, I can tell you that with some confidence.)
Very nice picture. You could have gone to college for Art instead of English.
Abby, that is an awesome drawing! You didn't major in art, did you? (English, right?) I guess you're just talented in that area! I loooooove art and drawing, etc, but never seem to have the time with everything else I have to do. Perhaps one day when the kids are grown, I will be able to devote more time to that. I will send you an email! :D
Michelle (who has to post as "anon" status because I signed up for Blogger beta! Grr.)
Every time I see your art work, I can't help but think "That would make an amazing rubber stamp!" The images are powerful, yet simple. And if these are fumbling doodles not worth framing, can I have something worth framing for my birthday? Or is that too bold a request?
You know...I HAVE set aside certain 'doodles' of yours to include in my scrapbooking.
It really is a race now...cause we are at the starting line together! hehehe
Just to be clear, it wasn't false modesty to call my drawings doodles. I like to draw and paint, and it's satisfying to make what I do. I went to college with art majors who created truly beautiful things, though, and my sketches and paintings are elementary in comparison. I don't want to pass myself off as something I'm not, though someday I hope to get some training and develop what I've got like my talented brother Luke has.
Titi, I have contact info. of someone interested in some of these doodles for that very purpose, I just haven't gotten around to getting some together. (Most of my doodles are out of my hands on cards and letters, and, plus I'm not sure I'd like to become a rubber stamp.) When's your birthday?
Michelle,
I went to a small Christian school that had no art classes, so the only art training I've had was a three-week ceramics course at Houghton. I, too, always say, "Someday..." Someone just reminded me last week, though, that in many ways this time in our lives is the most creative we'll ever have; it just expresses itself in different ways. I found it encouraging and hope you do, too. I think she's right, and I wonder how much of our (mine and yours) "someday" art will draw from this busy, wonderful time when we're steeped in the creativity and energy of our children.
Rundy,
It just wasn't practical to be an Art major when I'd never had an art class. It was infinitely more practical to major in English so that I could teach for one year and then raise children to pay off my debts. (Tongue in cheek). At least the homeschooling headhunters won't be able to complain about my credentials...
THE END OF THE WORLD'S LONGEST COMMENT LIES RIGHT HERE.
"World's Longest Comment"? That sounds like it might be a dare. . .
I know there are places that make custom rubber stamps, though I haven't done research on it. I didn't know if you'd like to be a "rubber-stamp" or not, just that I would love to have some way of reproducing your artwork on my own cards and letters. Because, art classes or no, your level of artistic ability is far above mine, so I need to take the cheater's way out of expressing myself visually. But I would certainly understand that making your work into something that could be mass produced does seem to cheapen it.
That request for a piece of your artwork popped out of my mouth without me quite knowing it. . . I hope you don't take it too seriously (though I do enjoy every careless doodle you've digitally shared with me). My birthday isn't even for another 6 months (last day of June), and I will be turning into an old lady, as I have every birthday since my 12th.
i got my card in the mail tonight, AND my internet connection worked, so i have been able to catch up on blogs a bit... your card and letter warmed me. OH, and speaking of warm, due to you i now eat my cream of wheat with maple syrup. how could i have been missing that all these years? thank you, o wise one.
I'll thank my mother for you. She used to feed it to me when I was young, so it's only fitting that I do the same to my own.
I'm glad you got the card! In hope, I sent it to that address.
Titi,
No, not a dare! You'd win every time. :)
