Cruel & Unusual
Several weeks after I took this picture of Laura sleeping peacefully in Mildred's outdoor house of the day, we found her inside the sprawling forsythia on the lawn. Her already compromised head was sodden with rainfall and dew, blackened by mildew, her body likely in the last stages of rot.
Apparently, Susannah had been trying to steal her, so Millie surreptitiously slipped her into the forsythia for witness protection.
I made the mistake, in the midst of Mildred's woe, to carelessly say that she might be in a state too degenerate to save.
There is no despair like a mother's despair.
And there is no love like a mother's love.
This little mother worked very hard to right her wrong.
Here's the happy ending.
Ah, yes. Just as good as new...

Aww, there IS something really sweet about that doll.
When my children are especially dirty - I go to town on them with a toothbrush. Sometimes rubs holes in the skin, but DOES get them clean.
She looks like she was being extra gentle and very sweet.
I am so sorry... This just made me crack up! I am glad Millie wanted to right her wrong, but perhaps the toothbrush was a bit harsh on Miss Laura's (as we'd say in the South) face? hehe
I am sure she is just as loved as always! :)
The best part, Michelle, is that Laura's face ALREADY looked like that before she was left outside!
She's been well loved since Millie's fourth birthday (tho' Laura might differ on the "loved" part).
(oops...third birthday)
