Bringing Out the Big Guns

I've mentioned before Dude's talent for creating backyard beauty. He used to own his own landscaping business, and he pairs an artistic eye with untold hours of labor each year to create a wonderland in summer and autumn. He sometimes scores plants and bushes that the uber-wealthy are throwing away as they re-design, he propagates trees and bushes, and he saves seed each year. When they moved in, this yard was a bare patch of earth with a pine tree. Five years later, with ingenuity and elbow grease, it's a wonderland.

The newest addition is a sprinkler system he installed with the help of a friend, and the girls heartily approve. (Millie missed out on this half hour of play because she chose to go shopping with Grandma. When she saw these pictures of ladies leaping, she gave a soft, jealous sigh.)
