The Elephant That Nearly Wasn't
Annika was very specific in her cake request. She wanted an elephant, for the third year in a row, but this time with a few variations, as follows.
A WHOLE purple elephant
with a PINK unicorn horn
and PINK toenails
AND drinking PEANUTS from a CUP using his TRUNK as a STRAW
while he said, "Hello, HELLO, Peanuts!"
If you ever have a child who wants the same, here's a helpful list of do's and don'ts to make your life easier.
1. DO make one and a half times of the cake recipe s/he requests (I congratulated myself for doing this.)
2. DON'T forget to flour the cake pans after you grease them
3. DO not scowl when you thump the cakes out of the pans and they fall apart because you forgot to flour them first
4. DON'T break the only whole piece of the extra round cake, which you need to make a cup o' peanuts, by dropping it on the floor.
5. DO glue cake fragments to cake fragments with frosting to form aforementioned peanut cup.
6. DON'T assume that 1 and a half times the frosting recipe will be enough to frost the sides (because it won't, and you'll just give up and leave the sides bare)
7. DO sift the powdered sugar first so that the finished frosting won't be so lumpy it continually clogs the frosting tips.
8. DON'T let anyone know that you make all these mistakes.
So this is what she got.

Either you're prone to exaggeration or you're an extremely gifted cake repair artist. I believe it's the latter.
Another beautiful creation!
Ouch. That list will bring back to anyone's mind their personal cooking disasters.
But in your case yours doesn't look like a disaster. Lucky you.
Brilliant (as always). That must be some miracle frosting if it brings together stubborn pan-loving cakes! :)
It looks just as she imagined it. I have to figure out how to use that fancy shmancy tips. I REALLY do...
Hello Hello Peanuts!
I love it. It's perfect, as if it'd be anything else!
yes, abigail, you've outdone yourself. but the true genius here is the young mind who DESIGNED this magnificent cake ideal.
i can't stop laughing.
hello, HELLO, peanuts?!?
oh, and with a unicorn horn, of couse. that makes everything so much more wonderful.
i think the yurt also needs a unicorn horn. maybe my car does too.
that's AWESOME!
Tori,
I am prone to exaggeration at times, but this was the bare truth.
Heidi,
I KNOW! I told myself that really nothing could ruin such a cake. Even if it was just a lump of crumbs with a dollop of frosting, the design idea would still save it.
