Your artistic flair makes it all look to easy. I'm not afraid of the sewing, but I don't know how you get such perfect applique shapes. (Also, I do not know if you did it on purpose or not, but I like how the haunch of the bear is defined by the pattern of the fabric.)

For the appliques, I doodle the shapes on paper, cut them out, lay them on top of fabric I've fused with that stuff that makes fabric stick to fabric (do you know what I'm talking about?), outline the paper doodle onto the wax paper side, cut out along the outline, fuse the applique to the base fabric, and stitch in on. Typing it in such a convoluted way makes it sound much more involved than it actually is, I guess. There's such liberty to it, though, because anything you can imagine can then be appliqued.
p.s. Let's pretend I deliberately accentuated the haunch like that...at three o'clock in the morning. :)
