MRS. SHIZZO, DON'T LOOK!!!
These haven't arrived at her door yet, but I decorated a white onesie with thread and made some little booties for Anna. I'm hoping her mama is too busy to check my blog anymore, otherwise I just stuck my present-giving foot in my mouth. (...Or whatever the equivalent of a verbal slip-up would be in the electronic realm.) I used Heather Bailey's pattern for the felt booties and added my own embellishments to match those that I had embroidered on the onesie. Her mom says she looks good in fire-engine red, but I found that onesies in that shade are rare...
p.s. Those are lollipop flowers. Sweet-- get it?

By the way, I think we picked up one of the only fire-engine red, plain onesies for Timothy at a yard sale a couple years back. I think there are only about 5 left in the world. I don't know why bright colored onesies are so rare. Children look so nice in them!
I had fun making these, except for the part when I discovered what a pain it is to embroider on stretchy fabric (I had no idea!).
And, Michelle, so it's your fault I couldn't find any!
Ah, I'd wondered about that. You've been talking quite confidently about "embroidering onesies", and kept thinking "What, those stretchy knit things that newborns wear? That sounds tricky to me." And then you did it, and of course it doesn't look like a pain, so I thought maybe I was missing something.
(Just as a FYI, usually when stretchy things are embroidered, they're interfaced from the back with something non-stretchy, just right where the embroidery is. I think it's still a pain, even then, but probably less of a pain.)
And I join in the lament that manufacturers only produce pastel colors for baby things when babies like and look good in bright, vibrant colors.
I knew about interfacing, but didn't have any, and when I'm in the mood to actually accomplish something, it's better that I just plow ahead! I finished half of it, muttering to myself in frustration, and then Becky came over and said, "I've heard freezer paper works." She even had some for me to use! The second half of the embroidering went by without as much muttering. Note-- I said "as much," not "none"... :)

I know a remedy about the bland onesies. DYE them! Duh. Food coloring?!? ;-)

I love the booties. I had seen a similar pattern by Martha S. but always admired and never did. These make me want to change that.
I have been working on baby gifts lately too. Is it baby boom season around here? It sure seems to be. Except, of course, in my case. :(
I stumbled across this pattern by accident. As you know, I'm not crafty and am pretty ignorant of the blogging, craft wizards out there, but when I saw this pattern, I knew I'd like to try it. It's quite easy, and now I've hunted down Martha's, too. Thanks a lot!
And, not to fear, God hasn't seen fit to give us a new one yet, either. Let's sew zillions of baby gifts together!!! :)
