Season's End
We wanted to have one last picnic, but we had to stop by Target first with a now-forgotten purpose. They thought this giant red object outside the store (who knows the mind of renovators?) was made for play.
Our next stop was the Discovery Center where we came upon unexpected free yogurt, pretzels, and face painting. It was the perfect supplement to our pre-zoo picnic.
She asked for a princess crown, but I think it looks more like a pastel menorah.
This one didn't want to have her face painted; all she cared about was getting her paws on some free pretzels. Really, looking at Millie's menorah, who can blame her? (At this point, let me insist that I am not ungrateful, that I was delighted by the surprise of face-painting, and that the menorah-crown made the day even better. I just use unecessary sarcasm to make the narrative flow along less dully.)
Susannah was fixated on the food, also.
Then we walked down the hill to the zoo for our last visit of the season.
I include this picture because Mildred was trying to instill dreadful terror in this lumbering bear by Eating Him. (John had given them each a box of animal crackers, and as we visited different cages, they ate the animals within.)
He may look calm, but he was shaking in his claws as he watched Millie consume Himself in Cracker Form.
